The decision to go into nursing was a long one. I suppose that I was initially interested in it about three years ago when my wife and I were living in a small town in Oklahoma. At the time I needed a job and the town did not offer many opportunities other than a two year ADN nursing program at the local community college. I applied and was accepted. A good friend of mine that was in medical school suggested that I investigate CRNA or Nurse Anesthetist.
He mentioned that CRNAs can make almost 200k a year and have good schedules. This sounded great to me.
As time drew near to begin the program I back out and decided not to attend.
I had talked myself out for many reasons some of which are:
Nursing is predominantly female, what would people think of me as a male going to nursing school?
Nurses always complain about their pay, they must not make very much.
Would I ever be able to support a family as a nurse.
I didn’t want to wipe old peoples butts all day.
CRNA schools required a BSN rather than an ADN, I was looking at about 6-7 years at a minimum before I could be done with CRNA school.
